Our "hero", Nick Grymtrove, has given into temptation
and admitted to his best friend that he likes her as
more than a friend. Disgusted, she leaves him to drink
away his rejection, after which he attempts to walk home. But as he
staggers home, he accidentally interrupts a black mass; a
mistake that seemingly marks the beginning of his downfall.

After being accused of his best friend's murder/disappearance,
a chance encounter with a strange detective means his
